Why Homeowners Choose Hartley & Co

Three generations of craft, backed by independent accreditation and a tight-knit team.

Independent Since 2012

David Hartley founded the workshop in 2012. He still measures every kitchen himself and signs off every finished install. James runs the bench and oversees fitting. No sub-contractors, no drop-offs to strangers — the same faces you meet at the survey are the ones on site.

FIRA Gold Certified

The Furniture Industry Research Association audits our bench standards, glue strength, hinge fatigue, and finish durability every year. Gold is the highest tier. It means every cabinet leaving our Islington workshop has been independently load-tested — not just inspected by us.

Ten-Year Guarantee

Every Hartley kitchen is covered for ten years against cabinet, door, and hardware failure. If a Blum hinge fails in year eight, we replace it — no receipts required. We back ourselves because we build to last the life of the home.

One Project at a Time

We only take on one major install per month. That's deliberate. It means David is on site daily, James is leading the fit, and you have a single point of contact from first visit to final walkthrough. No production-line feel, no rotating teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to the questions North London homeowners ask us most often.

How long does a full kitchen installation take?
A typical bespoke kitchen takes ten to fourteen working days on site once the cabinets arrive from our workshop. Design and production before that runs six to eight weeks. We give you a day-by-day schedule at the survey and stick to it — if a delivery slips we tell you that morning, not the day of.
Do you handle plumbing, electrics, and tiling, or just the cabinets?
All of it. We are a full install team — Gas Safe and Part P registered trades on our payroll, not sub-contracted. One team manages the rip-out, first-fix plumbing and electrics, cabinet install, worktop template and fit, splashbacks, and snagging. You get one invoice, one warranty, one team to chase.
What does a Hartley kitchen typically cost?
Bespoke shaker kitchens start at £8,000 for the cabinets, rising to £25,000+ for larger rooms with island, pantry, and premium appliances. Worktops in quartz or granite add £2,500-£5,000. Appliances are supplied at trade from our Miele, Neff, and Wolf accounts — typically 10-15% below RRP. We give fixed-price quotes, not ranges.
Can I visit your workshop before committing?
Yes — we encourage it. Our workshop at Chapel Market is open Tuesday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Come and see cabinets being built, meet the joiners, handle the finishes, and compare Blum drawer runners with cheaper alternatives. Most clients visit twice before signing off the final spec.
Do you work outside North London?
Our catchment runs across Islington, Camden, Hackney, Haringey, and Westminster — roughly a five-mile radius of Chapel Market. We have completed kitchens as far out as Barnet and Walthamstow for returning clients. Beyond that we recommend a vetted colleague rather than stretch our team thin.
What happens if something goes wrong after installation?
You call David's direct mobile — it's on every invoice. Cabinet and hardware faults are covered for ten years, appliances for the manufacturer's term (usually two to five years). We aim to be on site within forty-eight hours for anything that stops the kitchen being used, within a week for cosmetic snags.
